Manchester's Flagship Cycleway?
I don't think I've ever been along Oxford Road on a bike without having to swerve into the road to avoid taxis, roadworks or other obstructions.
The taxi drivers block it all the time.
This is also a common occurrence.
The roadworks never seem to stop.
When combined with taxis it makes the cycle way almost pointless.

It's an everyday occurrence...
They really don't give a shit do they...
Even if the road markings say "KEEP CLEAR"!
And when there is plenty of space on the road...
Even better when the cycle track has just been fenced off!
But that doesn't matter to most drivers...
Even when it's dark.
Just imagine what would happen if you blocked the roadway with a bicycle.
Well, you don't need to imagine - just watch this!

Why has there been 14 months of inaction on the Irwell Towpath in Ordsall?
Has my ranting and raving on Twitter finally forced some action on the Irwell Towpath?
This path has been closed since December 2015
This morning was the first time in 14 months I have seen work being carried out on the path.
Rubble was being lifted into the area of the collapsed path and raked into position.
On returning this evening it was clear that this was not a long term repair of the towpath but a short term cludge.
Bags of rocks have been placed in the river to provide an outer edge and rubble has been put in between the bags and the remaining path to build the area up towards path level.
The fact that this is a short term measure begs the question as to why it has take over 14 months to get this far?

NCN Route 6 closed for the rest of the year
I discovered today that National Cycle Network Route 6 will be closed on Liverpool Road from 14th October for at least 3 months. It turns out that United Utilities will be closing Liverpool Road and Water Street entirely for around 3 months. Whilst there will still be narrow pedestrian access there will be no provision for cycling whilst the first phase of work is carried out. Anyone cycling along Water Street or along Liverpool Road will have to get off and walk around the junction.
In the new year there may be provision for people cycling to get between Princes Bridge and Liverpool Road along Woollam Place, but don't hold your breath.
So if you regularly use Liverpool Road and Princes Bridge you may find yourself being sent on long unpleasant diversions via Mancunian Way, Chester Road, Bridgewater Viaduct, Deansgate, Quay Street and Water Street and vice versa.
If you are on a bicycle you can get off and push along the pavement, but anyone who uses a trike or trailer may have to go round the long way because the pavements are going to be very narrow at the junction.
UPDATE: this is the diversion which is going to be posted by United Utilities - it's 3/4 mile long and goes up and down a hill.

Cycle Route Closure - NCN55 at Roe Green
This path is on the old Eccles, Tyldesley and Wigan branch line. Tot the south-east of this point the old line is the Monton and Roe Green Loopline Heritage Trail including Worsley Station.
The part that is closed is between the M60 and Greanleach Lane.
The closure is caused by sewer works.
However, last weekend people were bypassing the fence at the south eastern end by lifting bikes over the fallen on the left of this image.
The works were fenced of, so quite safe,
and the fence had been pushed over at the north-western end.
So not really closed off... and you can always use the official diversion along Greanleach Lane.
